David Schiff grew up in San Diego and was bitten by the acting bug as a young teenager. In high-school he landed a role in a USC thesis film and that experience piqued his interest in working behind the cameras. Accepted into the prestigious USC school of Cinema, Schiff graduated in 3 ½ years and landed his first job in the industry working for television pioneer Alan Landsburg in his television movie department.
In 1997, sensing a shift in the cable television landscape and a growing demand for non-fiction programming Schiff was elevated to the title of Vice President of Non-Fiction programming for The Landsburg Company and set up a variety of projects at HBO, TBS and UPN. Growing restless with the
executive ranks, Schiff decided to gain some hands on producing experience. He was hired by E! Entertainment during the heyday of their flagship biography series THE E! TRUE HOLLYWOOD STORY. Schiff cut his teeth on production and quickly rose through the ranks to become a producer, working on several of the highest rated episodes in the history of the series including MACKENZIE PHILLIPS, THREE’S COMPANY, JOHN LENNON and JESSICA HAHN.
After two years, Schiff was wooed from E! to join the staff of another iconic biography series, VH1’S ‘BEHIND THE MUSIC’. While at VH1 he worked numerous BTM episodes including BARRY WHITE, BAD COMPANY and DONNY & MARIE.
By 2001, Schiff’s freelance writing and producing career was flourishing. As a writer he worked on a variety of projects for THE HISTORY CHANNEL’S HISTORY VS. HOLLYWOOD and VH1 CONFIDENTIAL. He also wrote and produced two episodes of the popular FOX SPORTS series BEYOND THE GLORY. He was also instrumental in the sale and development of the NBC behind-the-scenes telepic about THREE’S COMPANY and served as a co-producer on the project. Schiff spent the next three years as a freelance producer, director and supervising producer at boutique non-fiction powerhouse World of Wonder Productions. While at World of Wonder, he worked on an eclectic array of programming for Court TV, SCI-FI CHANNEL, VH1, AMC and Channel 4 in the UK.
In 2003, Schiff returned to the executive ranks as first Head of Production and then Head of Development for World of Wonder. He spent the next three years overseeing the development and production of over 80
hours of programming for almost two-dozen networks including NBC, HBO, A&E, BRAVO, SUNDANCE, TV LAND, SPIKE, DISCOVERY, AMC, TCM, COURT TV, LIFETIME, WE, VH1, MTV, TRIO and TECH TV.
In August of 2006, Schiff jumped at the chance to apply his broad array of experiences to a more mainstream environment and joined A. Smith & Company as the Vice President of Production and Development. Personally, David had been married to his wife Amy for 5 years. They have a 2-year-old son named Aaron and a baby girl, Emily, who was born in October 2006.
